I started quilting again in January 2013. I am a volunteer at O’leano State Park in High Springs, Florida. I help them with their special events every year, which I have been doing since year 2010. I offered to make pot warmers for their Chili Cook-Off and was asked to make 30 of them last year. It was very interesting to say the least, but it was the first time I had done quilting since 2003.
I am not am expert yet, but an amateur still learning. I must admit that I’ve come a long way since then and I love experimenting things just like I do when I cook. But I have learned real quick that quilting is a far cry from cooking. In cooking you can throw something together with out measuring or a recipe. Quilting you cannot!!! Quilting is about measuring, precice measurements and it took some doing, but I believe I have improved some since then.
I started following Pat Sloan’s Quilt Along with Pat Sloan. I also found another site with free blocks called Quilterscache.com. I have learned a lot in the past year and I’m loving it. I started a quilt for my son last July and I just knew that it would be done by his birthday, August 22, boy was I wrong. I finished it this year in April and gave it to him on my birthday, April 11. Now I know you are wondering, “she’s suppose to get a gift, not him.” That was my gift, giving him his.
